The Canada Revenue Agency's Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

Date: February 7, 2012 Time: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Event Description

The Canada Revenue Agency's Community Volunteer

Income Tax Program (CVITP)

The Canada Revenue Agency's Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) would like to welcome you as a volunteer tax preparer this year!

As you know, the Canada Revenue Agency offers free volunteer tax training sessions and provides volunteers with a kit of handy reference material. We will be covering the information necessary to prepare basic income tax returns. We like to make the training as practical as possible, so, if you choose, you can stay to complete some sample tax returns.

This year it is not mandatory that experienced volunteers attend a training session. New volunteers however should plan on attending the full training to familiarize themselves with the CVITP and the computer software. The times and dates for training are listed on the reverse and if you are an experienced volunteer you can pick up your package, fill out your sign up sheet and be on your way. Experienced volunteers can stay for the training if they wish. The session will go straight to the UFILE computer software after a short introduction. Please contact Kevin Pack directly by phone at 382-3043 or by email at Kevin.Pack@craarc.gc.ca to sign up for a session or if you have any questions. The Volunteer Information Sheet needs to be completed, signed and returned to Kevin before you are considered to be a Registered Volunteer. If you are not a registered volunteer, you will not receive any correspondence from the Agency (including tax return preparation software).

Additionally, if you would like to invite a friend, who has experience completing tax returns, to attend training and volunteer along with you, please do so. You can sign up for the training together. In the past, some volunteers have asked Kevin tax related questions using email. Please remember if you choose to use this medium to contact Kevin that no tax sensitive information should be sent i.e. someone’s Social Insurance Number.

We look forward to working with you through the filing season ahead. It is the hard work and dedication of volunteers like you that continues to make this such a successful program. Thank you in advance for your commitment to the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program and we hope that you know what a vital service you provide to people who really need it.
