Self-Employment Training Program
Self-Employment Training Program is an Alberta Labour initiative that Community Futures Entre-Corp has delivered collectively for 21 years. The self-employment (SE) training program is a 1-year commitment that will provide training and mentorship on how to start and run a business.
It begins with 7-weeks of classroom-led business training. Classes run Monday to Thursdays, from 8:45 am to 4:00 pm. Students will receive regular mentoring support and ongoing follow-up reviews out to 9 months.
The 7-week classroom portion includes topics such as:
Basic bookkeeping & financial statements
Income tax matters
Understanding sole proprietorship/partnerships/corporations
Cash flow budgeting
Market research (identifying your customer, your competition, industry/product definition)
Social media relationship building
Several guest speakers are invited in to discuss insurance, OHS/WCB, legal matters, graphic design, branding, website matters, managing stress, True Colors, Chamber memberships, as well as a list of guest panel speakers who are also business owners and have a wealth of experience to share. Interested individuals must apply and be assessed for eligibility to determine acceptance. If you want more specific information about the whole program, or just parts of it, please call Pat Guist at 403-528-2824.
